I find the default colour choices in many terminals and in Dwarf Fortress to be pretty terrible. My main peeve is that dark blue is too dark and thus invisible against a black background, and colour 6 ("yellow") is usually a pretty terrible mustard colour instead of the brown it's meant to be. (Really: although the original IBM PC CGA card signaled "half-red-half-green-no-blue" for that mustard colour, the IBM 5153 monitor designed to be hooked up to the card detected this signal and added in a little blue for a more tolerable brown colour.)
